The Re-Birth...

Everyone that knows me definitely knows that I love chips (also known as fries in other parts of the world). I love trying out new restaurants only to see if their chips are any good. The better the chips, the better the restaurant in most cases. Yes, most of you must be rolling your eyes as you read this.

This blog has been created to serve this purpose and more. I shall basically be reviewing and tallying different restaurants and their meals - in general, I shall be reviewing the food and hospitality service industry in Uganda (which is where I reside) and any other parts of the world that I have been to or are currently visiting.

Why add chocolate to the title? Reason numero uno: it just rhymes. Plain and Simple. Reason two: I love doing the same with hot chocolate - only a few people know how to make a good cup of hot chocolate. Reason three: I shall be reviewing both sweet and salty foods so why not?

Restaurants with the best fries you ask? The Bistro in Kisimenti, Resto in Bugolobi, Le Chateau in Nsambya, Bon Apetit chain, Mr. Tasty and who can forget Chicken Tonight! The thing is, everyone's preference differs - I really dislike chunky chips; these are usually half cooked in the middle and taste like boiled potatoes with a hard outer shell. If you love chunky chips, then do not order chips at these restaurants. They have a variety of other delicious side dishes that you could choose from.

Hot chocolate...the skill most Ugandans have failed to acquire. In this case, I think I am too "American" and non-Ugandan. I do not like milk so I endeavor to either eliminate or minimize the amount of milk I take in. A good chocolate-y cup of hot chocolate is made with chocolate syrup, hot milk and hot water, and this mixture is definitely taken through an espresso machine. How it's done, I don't know but I know one thing: the chocolate base has to be a syrup and not powder. So far, CeeCee's cafe in Luzira, Cafe Pap on Parliament Avenue and Faze 2 have got this down to a wire (of course, with my instructions, "More chocolate and less milk").

The picture below does give a good description of what chocolate and chips would look like together. Quite fascinating!

I can't wait to continue this journey...

The birth of Chocolate and Chips... Everyone that knows me fairly well, knows that I LOVE chips. They are called chips in this part of the world but some also refer to them as fries. This blog has been created to act as a review of the food/restaurant/hospitality service industry in the 256. So let the reviews start...
